I made a decision back in December ’08 to temporarily put all of my home based business activities on hold and go to work helping a friend get all the technical aspects of his startup institutional investment advisory business setup and operational. It has really been a long nine months for me and the time has come for it to end. My friend is merging his company with several business associates and they are going to take things to a whole new level. Part of this includes outsourcing most of what I do every day so my services are really not needed there any more.

I’m seriously ready to hang it up anyway so this is a welcome relief. The daily routine, the 30 minute drive, sitting in an office everyday, brown bagging a lunch, reporting to someone else, trying to meet expectations, etc. etc. None of it was very enjoyable for me. I much prefer working for myself, from home, online.

I believe things happen for a reason, so I’m not questioning my decision to go and work there, but I can’t help but wonder if I would have been better off spending the past nine months focusing on my internet marketing activities instead. It doesn’t matter because the reality is that I needed the money at the time, so I accepted the offer. Now things are different so I’m looking forward to taking my own business to a whole new level. All of my websites are still up and running. I am older and wiser, a little anyway. All my domains are another year older too. Now I can really focus on getting back to my home based business again. Where do I begin?

Well I started by making a quick post to some of my blogs to let the big G know they are still alive. I’m going to take an inventory of all my sites to remind myself where I am, what I have, and what the status of everything is right now. I also built a new computer recently so a lot of my business software is not even installed right now. This gives me an opportunity to get setup properly with all the tools I need. I have some catching up to do for sure, which is fine with me. I could use a little “detoxing” from that routine anyway. I have a lot of things already in the works which I will discuss in future posts so be on the lookout.

Another thing I am going to focus on is time blocking or focus time. I run more than one business so I need to learn to focus on one activity at a time. I am pretty much ADD all day long and it is not very productive. I go from one thing to another all the time and it has gotten on my nerves. I am going to make myself a schedule which will have me working on one business activity at a time in blocks of time. Internet marketing activities would include blocking out one or two hours at a clip for article writing or link building. During that time I will do nothing else. I also plan on scheduling down time as well so I make sure to stay healthy and happy. I’ll share more on this as it develops.

That’s it for now.
